MECLIPS / Video tracking
How does video tracking help you clip one person?
Finding yourself in a group video involves two choices: which moments to keep, and whether the frame should follow you. MeClips separates these steps, selecting appearances by default and making person tracking crop optional.
1. What does person video tracking mean?
For person-focused editing, tracking means using the person’s position across video frames to move the crop with them. The broader term “video object tracking” can also describe vehicles, animals or other objects. MeClips currently focuses on a person chosen with a reference image.
It processes recorded videos after you select and upload them, then generates a result in the cloud. It is not a live camera tracker, surveillance system or identity-verification tool.
2. Selecting appearances does not require cropping
Clip selection determines which time segments to keep. Tracking crop determines which part of the image to show in those segments. For a stage performance, you might keep one performer’s appearances while preserving the entire stage and other participants.
Enable tracking crop when you want the framing to concentrate on the subject. The rectangular crop moves with their position. The defaults use the original ratio with cropping off; selecting another ratio without cropping adds padding to preserve the full frame.
| Setting | Full frame (default) | Tracking crop |
|---|---|---|
| Segments | Select appearances automatically | Select appearances automatically |
| Composition | Keep the whole scene | Move a rectangular crop with the person |
| Different aspect ratio | Add padding without discarding content | Crop to fit; edges may be lost |
| Best suited to | Preserving the stage and other participants | Focusing on one person with fewer others in view |
3. Which recordings can work well?
Performances and event recordings can work when a person is clearly visible and has distinctive clothing. Family recordings can be used to collect one person’s appearances when you have the right to process the media and any necessary consent.
Keep one person prominent in the reference. Similar outfits, a small subject or frequent obstruction can lead to missed or incorrect matches, so pay particular attention to those moments when reviewing the result.
4. Tracking crop is different from cutting a person out
Tracking adjusts a rectangular frame. It does not separate a person pixel by pixel, remove the background or erase other people. Someone standing close to or overlapping with the subject may remain visible in the clip.
Fast movement, the edges of the source frame, and leaving and re-entering a shot can make framing and selection harder. Automatic processing cannot guarantee that it always selects the right person or includes every appearance.
5. Prepare a reference and review the result
Choose a clear frame from the same video with the person prominent and recognizable clothing, hair or body details still visible. Upload it with the video, choose whether to enable tracking crop, and generate.
Review entrances, exits, moments around obstructions and fast scene changes. Try a clearer reference if matching is unreliable, or turn cropping off if it discards important context. Video and reference files are uploaded to the server; images used for analysis may be sent to AI services.
6. How 视频跟踪-知微 relates to MeClips
视频跟踪-知微 is the name of the MeClips iOS app for extracting a person’s appearances with optional tracking crop. The MeClips website provides a similar editing workflow.
Source uploads are not automatically deleted when generation finishes. Delete a project, or delete your account in the app, to remove associated data. Read the app privacy policy for processing details and use the support page for account or task help.
